At the 3rd World Chinese Economic Forum, held in Kuala Lumpur on Nov 3-4, 2011, Dato’ Vijay Eswaran was conferred with a Lifetime Achievement award for Regional Philanthropy in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the community in the region.

He was one of the eleven outstanding individuals presented with lifetime achievement awards given in recognition of the impact each one has brought in their respective fields. Former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi presented the awards to the recipients at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre, accompanied by Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen and second finance minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah.


Dato’ Vijay has initiated a number of CSR initiatives through the two Foundations that channel the philanthropic activities of the QI Group worldwide. RYTHM Foundation based in the QI Group’s headquarters in Hong Kong works with NGOs and international charitable organisations to support projects in the areas of community development, education, environment protection and promotion of arts & culture. Vijayaratnam Foundation, its Malaysian chapter, established by Dato’ Vijay in memory of his father Mr.Vijayaratnam has implemented various long term initiatives in Malaysia in the same areas with specific focus on children and adolescent girls from underprivilged backgrounds and established a centre for children with special educational needs. In recognition of his philanthropic activities, Forbes Asia named him as one of the Heroes of Philanthropy in its annual list, earlier this year.

Other recipients include Tan Sri Vincent Tan for National Philanthropy, Tan Sri Khoo Kay Peng for leadership in global business, Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah for leadership in education, Tan Sri Tiong Hiew King for leadership in media industry and Tan Sri Tony Fernandez for leadership in air travel.
